I’m Elizabeth Seidl, a surface designer, artist and maker based in Ontario, Canada. Eternally inspired by silly cats and messy gardens, I create fun and bold artwork for accessories and home décor.
In the distant past I went to art school and then college for interior design. For a long time, I specialized in designing kitchens and custom cabinetry. More recently I followed my curiosity towards textile design, after playing around with block printing patterns using indigo ink on some cushion covers I made.
While that was a lot of fun, it was very physically demanding. I knew there had to be another way and so I was delighted to learn about digital surface pattern design for print-on-demand fabric and wallpaper products. Surface design has been my passion ever since.
I gather inspiration from my garden and cat family. Working from photo references, I sketch out ideas in my sketchbook or iPad.
Though I have fine art training in traditional mediums like painting, printmaking and sculpture, I’ve really embraced digital drawing in recent years.
To achieve a hand-drawn quality, I often combine analog techniques with my digital artwork, leading to colourful designs with variation and some randomness!
